Reporting Relationship: VP of Operations
Location: On-Site at Salisbury office in Topeka, KS
Salary: $55,000/yr - based on experience

Primary Accountability (Job Purpose):

The Purchasing Manager oversees the purchasing and procurement process, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services necessary for the Salisbury's daily operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsibility for purchasing key product lines; administers the inventory control and rebuying of these product lines for all locations
  • Follows the company's general purchasing policies and maintains a good relationship with suppliers and vendor representatives
  • Negotiates prices and makes purchases of quantity items in relation to the best purchase price, discount, and terms
  • Adjusts and solves problems with suppliers and reviews supplier invoices for proper pricing and terms
  • Maintains and or improves percentage of gross profit margin and service levels established by management
  • Assists in reviewing and returning dead stock
  • Stays within the budget limits established by management
  • Advises management of any problems with a vendor or customer
  • Advises management of vendor programs, specials, and new products
  • Manages product lines and ensure products turn at acceptable levels
  • Obtains current price sheets or product catalogs and distributes them to the proper personnel
  • Disposes of products received damaged from vendors and freight carriers
  • Maintains required records, files, and data processing information
  • Manages physical inventory counts
  • Contacts vendors in regard to returning goods; arranges for pickup and return of merchandise
  • Issues credit purchase orders and ascertains that credit or replacements are received
  • Monitors and updates transfers from other locations
  • Attends department meetings and other company meetings and training as requested.
  • Supervises Purchasing Agents/Assistant and Receiving Clerk
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree or Associates’ degree preferred, High School diploma minimum with strong mathematic aptitude.
  • Must have prior experience in purchasing, construction or industrial related experience and an interest in tools and equipment preferred.
  • Must be computer literate and able to operate business software, strong aptitude with Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the company.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Must be able to support the goals, plans, and objectives of the company.
  • Must have the necessary personal characteristics that make an employee a productive team member including high integrity, good personal habits, and regular attendance at work.
  • Must be able to organize, multi-task, plan, and set priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Self-motivated and interested in working with other people, as well as maintaining a good team attitude.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, lift, carry, push, pull, balance, stoop, reach, handle, talk, hear, see, grasp, move head and neck and movement across mid-line.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Finger dexterity, manual dexterity, alertness, precision, motor coordination, auditory discrimination and tactile discrimination.
