Reporting Relationship: Executive Director
Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000 - depending on experience
Location: Onsite at KOA Office in Topeka, KS
Primary Accountabilities:
The Assistant Executive Director is responsible for serving as a liaison, in conjunction with the executive director, between the Kansas Optometric Association (“KOA”), its related entities and our stakeholders, providers, and outside constituents. The Assistant Executive Director is responsible for supporting efforts to enhance the mission, public image, and increase provider engagement with the activities of KOA.
Major Duties:
- Works with the Executive Director and KOA staff to implement the objectives of the KOA Board of Directors.
- Plans, develops, and implements marketing strategies and public relations activities in conjunction with the Executive Director and KOA staff both internally and externally which supports KOA’s goals and objectives.
- Monitors KOA’s performance, identifying and facilitating opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency.
- Manages daily aspects of KOA and the KOA staff to ensure projects are completed and goals and customer needs are met.
- Advocates on behalf of the KOA and related entities locally, statewide and nationally.
- Attends KOA meetings to maintain awareness of internal and external activities and make suggestions for enhancement to outreach and services through communication methods.
- Participates as a liaison, organizer, or presenter in outreach events involving providers, stakeholders, constituents and beneficiaries of KOA.
- Represents KOA and related organizations in the community by participating in community events to help build a positive image and strong relationships.
- Serves as the staff liaison to volunteer committees.
- Assists with member communications, including print and electronic communications.
- Monitors, recommends, and provides updated content, design, and general management of KOA’s website as a public media outlet, including the use of business social media techniques (Facebook, blogs, twitter, etc.), using a content management system.
- Maintains knowledge of current media trends including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube.
- Assists the Executive Director with key administrative functions, including accounting, communications, etc.
- Answers telephone calls in a prompt, courteous and efficient manner and provides employees, members of KOA and outside constituents with excellent customer service.
- Assists with preparations and staffing for events hosted by the KOA and related entities.
- Performs other duties as needed and assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field required.
- Two (2) years of related supervisory experience. Experience in an association preferred.
- Experience with strategic planning, and planning the needs of an organization preferred.
- Experience and a demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office is required. Experience with accounting software and AMS systems is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort and experience with public speaking.
- Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external constituents.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to speak in-person or over the phone.
- Ability to read computer screens and mail for extended periods of time.
- Ability to unpack and move supplies up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
- Ability to drive an automobile.
Work Environment:
- Professional and deadline-oriented environment in an office setting.
- Interaction with internal and external customers.
- Some travel may be required.
