Topeka Country Club - Lifeguard

Reporting Relationship: Lifeguard Supervisor
The Lifeguard is responsible for enforcing all water safety policies and procedures while supervising Topeka Country Club (“TCC”) members and guests in and around the swimming pool area.
- Supervises and monitors the TCC swimming pool area while consistently enforcing all rules to ensure the safety of TCC members and guests.
- Vacuums the pool bottom, scrubs pool tiles, empties automatic skimmer, and skims the bugs and other debris from the pool surface to prepare the swimming pool for daily use.
- Identifies hazards and safely executes the evacuation of TCC’s pool due to severe weather, biohazards or any other emergency or non-emergency situations.
- Attends to injured members or guests by administering medical assistance for minor injuries, such as small cuts and bruises. Provides follow up support when needed and reports all injury incidents to the Lifeguard Supervisor.
- Performs safety checks of the pool area and all rescue equipment.
- Assists in organizing private swimming lessons for members as directed by the Lifeguard Supervisor.
- Keeps accurate and detailed records of pool utilization, maintenance and accident/incident reports.
- Checks first aid supplies and reports needed items.
- Organizes and monitors pool games at all times and provides suggestions on pool side games.
- Places rescue tube and ring buoy on the lifeguard chair in the morning and returns the buoy at the end of the day. Returns all swimming aids and pool toys to the lifeguard locker.
- Organizes and prepares the pool and cabana areas at the beginning and end of each day.
- Properly greets TCC members and guests by having knowledge of their names.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Lifeguard Supervisor.
- Lifeguard Certification, CPR Certification and First Aid Certification are required.
- Familiarity with pool environment is required.
- Ability to effectively communicate, present information and respond to questions, both verbal and written.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to analyze data or information by identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information and using logic to address work-related issues and problems.
- Ability to organize, multi-task, plan and set priorities with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Ability to exercise good judgment with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of TCC.
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Specific vision abilities required such as close, distance, color, peripheral and depth vision as well as the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to frequently move and lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally move and lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to perform physical activities which require considerable use of arms, legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling various materials.
- Moderate to loud noise level.
- Interaction with TCC staff and members.
- Regularly performing duties outside with various terrains such as extreme heat.
- Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Required to work weekends and odd/early/late hours, as necessary.
